"No! Otis!"

 

I barely thought about what Robert had said, nor did I pay any attention to the samurai beside him as I watched Otis, who had fallen before me, fall into an abyss of self-recrimination.

 

I stood straight in place as if I were a mindless puppet, and for a moment it was as if something had been ripped out of me, grief and anger almost overwhelmed me, and the pain of the moment almost drove me insane.

 

"Conrad, Otis is our MATE, how dare they hurt our MATE, no!"
