I felt all the color drain from my face. I knew that Dad had been in poor health for a while, but I had not realized things had gotten this serious, I thought we still had time to look for a plan. I tried to push the panic aside and think clearly.

"Okay, where is he now? What hospital are they taking him to?"

"We are at St. Mary's. They are preparing him for surgery as we speak."

I could hear Mom's loud crying at the background. I also felt like crying but there was nothing I could do.

"Okay, I'm on my way. I'll see you there."...
