With curiosity over him, Ken cleared his throat and was all ears as he patiently gazed upon the doctor to brief him on the state of her health.

“Is Mrs. Fanny your wife?” the doctor asked.

And Ken wondered if Kate had told him anything contrary and was the doctor in doubt of Mrs. Fanny being his wife. In as much as he felt guilty for lying about being her husband, he couldn’t have said anything less.
