Zoe felt her body propelled forward along with Penelope’s, her head banging against his chest.

She couldn't discern where she was injured, or perhaps due to the overwhelming panic that left her devoid of any strength to move.

Struggling to look ahead, amidst the deafening ringing in her ears, she heard the sound of the truck restarting.

Then, it made a U-turn and fled.

Blood smeared her face, making it impossible to distinguish hers from Penelope's. In her line of sight, everything was a crimson blur; she couldn't even make out the truck's license plate number.

Or even if she did, it likely wouldn't matter; the plate was likely fake....
