"We know, Alexa, and we're sorry," Sharon said, reaching out to take her hand. "But we were trying to protect you. We didn't want you to get hurt because of our condition.

"I understand that, but I'm not a child anymore. I can handle myself," Alexa said, pulling her hand away.

"We know you can, Alexa. And we're proud of the strong person you've become," Cameron said. "But this is different. This is about our very existence. And we can't risk anyone finding out about us."
