“Oh, are you guys talking about the gifts?” Melanie asks as she steps up beside Evelyn.

I turn and see Melanie with Isabel and Arthur right behind her.

“Yes!” Evelyn says with a grin. “We were just comparing efforts. What did you three get the birthday boys, anyway?”

Melanie laughs. “I am not revealing mine yet. I want to see their faces first.” She winks.

“You are cruel,” Jace says, placing a hand over his chest.

Isabel smiles at Luca before glancing at me. “I kept it simple this year. I figured practical is better.”
