The Truth We Don’t Want to See

Kelly’s POV

Susan pulled me into her arms, her warmth soothing the cold ache settling inside me. I let myself sink into her embrace, my tears soaking into her shoulder as she whispered soft reassurances.  

"You didn’t deserve any of this," she murmured, her voice filled with emotion. "They should have never done this to you."

I wanted to believe that.  

For a long time, we just sat there, holding each other, until Susan finally pulled back and wiped at her own tear-streaked face.  

"There’s something I need to tell you," she said carefully.  

I sniffled. "What now?" 

"Ava wants to see you."  ...
