It was said that the eyes were the windows to the soul. I had never believed that until I had met Asa; his were gateways to his deepest, most inner thoughts.
As he slid across the kitchen floor on his bum, claiming that he couldn't put his feet on the floor because he had to wait for the faces he had drawn on them—in sharpie— to dry, I knew without a shadow of a doubt that the boy was guilty.
