Marco showed up at my door just after noon. His knock was so calm, for a brief moment I thought it was Six… I hadn’t slept much. I’d spent the morning staring at the ceiling, dreading the sound of his shoes in the hallway. When I opened the door, he didn’t say anything—just stepped in like he owned the place.
Of course, he did.
He sat on the edge of the bed without asking. “I have a surprise for you,” he said, grinning from ear to ear. His hand found mine, and he kissed the inside of my wrist. I stiffened. “You’re going to love it, I promise.”
