I didn’t know the time I took a cab. I didn’t even remember moving so fast to the roadside. Everything was a blur—just the pounding of my heart and the echo of Maya’s voice in my head.
“We cracked it.”
That’s all it took.
One text. One line. And I was gone.
The cab smelled like old air freshener and cheap cologne. The driver kept humming to himself like there wasn’t a hurricane building in the backseat. My legs wouldn’t stop bouncing. I kept glancing out the window like I could somehow make the car move faster just by staring hard enough.
