"Evelyn..." I start but she cuts me off like every other time I've tried to start this one specific conversation. It's as if she knows what I'm about to say, and fights with everything inside her to not hear it.

I don't blame her for protecting herself. Last time things got beyond messy. They got to the point of breaking each other's hearts and tainting souls in a way they'd be marked forever with the damage.

And it was all my doing; all my fault. A burden of a thousand pounds that I carry with me every day.
