Bernice gazed at Leon with a look of desperation in her eyes. He softly stroked Ian on the back. "Okay, my boy, it's time to eat." 

Ian frowned and said, "She hasn't said sorry to Mommy yet. I won't eat.”

Remi was shocked and moved at the same time. Ian really did stand up for me. It's worth bringing this up. 

"Bernice," Leon yelled to her. He didn't say anything else, but it was apparent what he meant: apologize to Remi until she forgave her. 

Bernice had never been so embarrassed in her life. She bit her tongue so hard that she could taste blood. There was no real meaning...
