I sat on the edge of the bed, my hand trembling as I dipped a clean cloth into a bowl of warm water. Mara lay still, her breathing deep and heavy from the exhaustion and the hit to her head. A dark, ugly bruise was blooming across her temple, a mark where her skin had met the brick.
I blotted the wound, my heart twisting in my chest.
