LADY Frances couldn't shake the feeling that something was terribly wrong. After several failed attempts to reach Carlson, her worry had only deepened. Now wide awake, she threw back the covers and slid out of bed. Grabbing her silk robe and slippers, she hurried toward the door, her heart pounding in her chest.
