“Wait!” I blurt out quickly, just before Carter’s lips are about touch mine.

Carter opens his eyes and stares back at me, waiting for me to continue.

“Uh… I… think it’s a good idea for us to get to know each other, but this is the Peace Summit and I’m kind of busy right now… I think I should head back to the party and say hello to everyone…” I manage to say without sounding like I was lying. I give him another polite smile before saying, “Maybe some other time?”

Carter looks at me for a moment. I can’t decipher the look on his face....
