The drive home was rather the conventional silence which I had grown accustomed to—it was the calm that reeled me in to the cage I had come to know as my life.

Everything was a routine and felt exhausting. The only normalcy I had gotten was when he told me to go fuck Silas and for the very first time in a long time, that was the best thing he could have done.
