Bringing his hand to his back,  Alex slowly touched the area from which he was feeling a slight pain after the gunshot only to feel some liquid gushing out from the area, and without hesitating, he lifted his hand up to his face only to see that the liquid was his own blood.

On seeing this, it immediately dawned upon on Alex that Jake had shot him.
