The wind roared in my ears as I tore through the air, my vampiric speed carrying me like a blur over the landscape. Shadows slanted and stretched as I neared the dark tower, the thought hammering in my mind: Had I left the portal open? Was that how Ralph’s wolf had crossed over? But the closer I drew to the ancient stone archway, the more obvious it became—the portal was sealed. Intact, untouched.
How had Ralph’s wolf made it through? I pushed a hand against the stone, but its chill seeped into my skin, indifferent to my questions.
