I froze. My breath hitched. And just like that, she turned and disappeared into the crowd as if she’d never been there.

Ralph’s voice pulled me back from the edge of my spiralling thoughts.

“We need to leave this place,” he said, urgency threading through his tone.

I turned to him, confusion knitting my brows.

“What? Why?”

“Are you okay?” His eyes searched mine, steady and sharp.

I hesitated, then asked quietly, “Didn’t you see the woman?”

“Which woman?”

I nodded slowly but said nothing. “Maybe I’m just tired… seeing things that aren’t really there.”
