I clenched my fists, her words cutting deeper than I wanted to admit. I hated feeling powerless. I hated standing still while Damien was slipping further away. Every fibre of my being screamed at me to act, to do something, anything, but Garbie’s words were a harsh reminder of my limits.
I turned away from her, my chest heaving as I struggled to calm the storm inside me. My mind whirled with thoughts of Damien, of those black veins crawling across his skin.
