Jessica finds Kate as an infant on the streets and adopts her. Jessica raises the child as her own. When Kate is 18 they have a coming of age party for her and Jessica invites her brother, Nik (the Alpha) to come join. When Nik sees Kate he decides he must have her and wants her. Jessica and Kate are completely disgusted and appalled. Sometime after the party Nik requests to see his sister and demands she give him Kate to be his bride. Jessica refuses and tries to get Kate as far away from her brother as possible. Kate gets on a plane and hides but Jessica is killed shortly after in a car accident.

Three years later, Nik is still searching for Kate and finds her in Paris. Nik has her kidnapped and brought back to him where she is held prisoner. He tells her that she will become his wife and Luna and he must have her. Kate is furious and scared and tries to fight but no one will help her. One night she meets Parker, one of Nik’s regular women. Parker is curious about Kate and doesn’t understand or believe that Kate wouldn’t want to be with Nik and be his Luna (since this is all Parker wants). Kate begs Parker to help her escape by calling Logan. Parker agrees. Logan is already on his way to Nik’s wedding, not realizing that Kate was the kidnapped and intended bride. When Logan finds out he helps her escape. He takes her back to his home in Paris. Kate starts to realize he’s more than just the editor-and-chief.

Nik is announced dead on the werewolf news and Logan and Kate wonder what happened. They stay together and slowly fall in love.
