The story is about a young girl who married her first love, but her boyfriend did not love her. He has narcissistic disorder which has stemmed from his traumatic childhood. He looks at her as a long term investment knowing that her father will leave her a good fortune. He uses her as a meal ticket. He shows her love but also takes it away. In this book the reader has an insight of narcissism. After years of suffering in silence and almost on a verge of a mental breakdown /suicide, Claire finds comfort in her husband, Dick's, younger cousin. When her father passes away, Dicks mask falls off and his true narcissistic side is revealed. Collin stands by her and they fall in love. He saves her from the horrible marriage but it comes at a price. Dick is a lover scorned and he is not letting them get away so easily. He charges Collin for assualt. He refuses to divorce Claire. He wants everything and doesn't stop to think twice about their children. Consumed by hatred he wants to destroy the lovebirds. But Claire and Collin are stronger than he thinks.

They overcome every hurdle Dick throws at them.
